  • The Sy.Rn Complex

In the background of me doing #Dungeon23, I will be jotting down entries for an arcology for a cyberpunk setting. It will be called “The Sy.Rn Complex” This one won’t be as large as the dungeon one, but will be fun for me, nonetheless.

    I’ll log it under #Facility23.

To the west, past the Great Sova River and through the Ambrose Forest, lies the towering Mournmark Mountains. A colossal ridge of stone and earth that acts as a border between two kingdoms. Few paths adorn these mountains making them difficult to climb. The scant paths that do exist are dangerous, for they are watched by cunning predators hunting for foolish prey.

Deep within these gray mountains lies a valley where ruins of a great castle litter the landscape. An old blacksmith in the last town you visited told you about this place. “Vedis Valley is its name” they informed you. “Named after the vainglorious King Vedis.”

He told you the story of a king so full of himself, that he boasted he was richer than the gods themselves. And while it is said the vaults lying deep beneath his castle are filled with great treasures and untold riches, the gods took offense to his boasts. So, while King Vedis held a party, (in his honor of course) the gods shook the Mournmark Mountains and buried his castle under much earth and stone.

It is said that those few who were able to escape the gods’ wrath that night, saw King Vedis alive. They saw him crawling…deeper into the castle, after being struck by a great stone. They say he wanted to lie among his treasures. The final avarice of the Crawling King.

So, here you now stand among the ruins of Castle Vedis. Before you, a section of wall that has a crack large enough to squeeze through. Light your torches and keep your weapons ready, Adventurers, for danger and riches await you!

Spent this cold and rainy weekend working on some things for Dungeon23. I’m not working on rooms for the megadungeon yet, because I’m waiting to start on Jan 1st for that. But I do want to start the year running. So, while I’ve been collecting and deciding on which random generators I’m going to use, I’ve also designing a master page to input my finished levels onto. I’m kinda happy on how it has come out!

I put this together using public domain artwork and fonts. The artwork in the background I acquired from the Old Book Illustrations website. The fonts I selected from Fontesk. The Dungeon23 logo asset is from Lone Archivist, which can be found here. The page layout is all me.

I’m excited and nervous to be trying this year-long endeavor. I’m sure after the first week I will have to change some design elements on my page below to fit rooms, encounters, and treasures in an easier and legible format. But I’ll deal with that when those issues come up. For now, I’ll try to prep on how I’ll create a room each day in an effective and fun manner.

  • Megadungeon 2023

I saw a post online that I thought was pretty interesting. No, it wasn’t about how to cook a pot roast with Coke in an instant pot!

The post I saw was someone’s idea to do a “Megadungeon” for 2023. 12 levels. 365 rooms. One room a day.

I love the idea, and I think I’m going to give it a try! I will try to post the dungeons here.

Twitter post from Sean McCoy showing their journal in which they will be doing their megadungeon.

    Welcome!

The paint is still drying and boxes are getting unpacked. With the mass exodus off a certain social media site, I decided to go back to having my own website. Here I can post about things that interests me and if you’re here you can follow along. Topics like:

    • Game ideas for tabletop role-playing games
    • Story prompts for creative writing
    • Sharing photos that I take with my film cameras

So, enjoy the upcoming sporadic posts that will grace this site!
