To the west, past the Great Sova River and through the Ambrose Forest, lies the towering Mournmark Mountains. A colossal ridge of stone and earth that acts as a border between two kingdoms. Few paths adorn these mountains making them difficult to climb. The scant paths that do exist are dangerous, for they are watched by cunning predators hunting for foolish prey.

Deep within these gray mountains lies a valley where ruins of a great castle litter the landscape. An old blacksmith in the last town you visited told you about this place. “Vedis Valley is its name” they informed you. “Named after the vainglorious King Vedis.”

He told you the story of a king so full of himself, that he boasted he was richer than the gods themselves. And while it is said the vaults lying deep beneath his castle are filled with great treasures and untold riches, the gods took offense to his boasts. So, while King Vedis held a party, (in his honor of course) the gods shook the Mournmark Mountains and buried his castle under much earth and stone.

It is said that those few who were able to escape the gods’ wrath that night, saw King Vedis alive. They saw him crawling…deeper into the castle, after being struck by a great stone. They say he wanted to lie among his treasures. The final avarice of the Crawling King.

So, here you now stand among the ruins of Castle Vedis. Before you, a section of wall that has a crack large enough to squeeze through. Light your torches and keep your weapons ready, Adventurers, for danger and riches await you!
